Inner Latitudes, a quartet for clarinet, violin, cello and piano in three movements, is a temporal journey through emotional spaces, drawing much of its inspiration from this remarkably rich and versatile group of instruments as they interact with one another.
The Golden Hour, the first movement, explores the gentle stillness of early dawn; a moment of wistfulness while the world lays asleep.
The second movement, Latitude of Longing, is a nostalgic song of desire with deeply melodic content. In Flight, the final movement, is a soaring and energetic instrumental dance, with fast moving syncopation driving towards a climactic finish.
Inner Latitudes was commissioned for the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition and is dedicated to Micah Fink. It was premiered at the Music for All Festival in March 2018 by clarinetist Ryan Toher and friends.
